Cross My Loaf

Marie Louise Cochrane

Cross my loaf and hope to bake
bread that’s tasty bread that’s healthy
Cross my loaf and hope to bake
Good bread for me and you

He said this bread’s not good enough
It’s just not “food” enough
for children who need to learn
Its lack of goodness is an act of rudeness to adults who need to earn

He said the ones who bake for me
deserve some dignity
They need a better life
so let’s cut those hours and improve those flours and let them seek a wife

We say Neal Thompson’s vision brought some better living for
people this side of town
So let’s keep baking lots of bread worth making for us who are here and now
