I am a storyteller who belongs to Edinburgh and spends a lot of time in Fife in Scotland.
Before becoming a storyteller I worked in health promotion, social and pastoral care.
Since 2006 I’ve been telling and creating stories and songs around food, working mainly with schools and nurseries, community food projects and festivals, in the guise of ‘Mrs. Mash the Storytelling Cook’.
When I can I incorporate cooking and tasting foods into my sessions, and love to complement growing activities with traditional stories and songs.
I spent three years as the storyteller in residence for The Fife Diet: a successful project focussed on sustainable local food growing, health and wellbeing working all over Scotland.
In the last few years I have become interested in the place of grains and bread in Scottish culture. I am interested in both the heritage and traditions around growing, harvesting and celebrating the seasons, and in creating a sustainable and healthy food system for Scottish people in the future.
Here is a clip of me in action at a spring sowing event https://youtu.be/cABNZlIyMmY
Here are some songs that I’ve written and sung for the bread-making community..
